and according to the calendar it was yesterday. Although I never understood why couples can't do special things for each other randomly throughout the year. The holiday serves my parents' business well. (Buy flowers from your local florist. Trust me, they are better quality!!!)
Anyway, hope you all had a great Valentine's Day. Now, do something nice next week too!
That I (Kristin) will be a remotely decent parent despite my OCD tendencies. For any of you that had doubts please meet Emma (2.5 yr old) and my refrigerator!
Emma is our friend Sarah's daughter. They came to spend the weekend with us at the beginning of the month. She seemed to get bored with the Curious George coloring book, so this was my next suggestion. (I have magnetic, dry erase markers on the fridge. I use them to write out our calendar/important dates throughout the month.) Ones' best friend is Goof Off. Love this stuff and it gets the markers right off. (WARNING: highly flammable and can cause burning in the lungs...use after kids go to bed.)
This is progress for me. Typically I would have a heart attack. I quite enjoyed it.
We love the Carolinas, but think it's absolutely hilarious that everything (and we do mean EVERYTHING) shuts down the second we get a flurry or two. Anyway, we got to spend more time together today. Mason was not too sure about his first snow, but eventually became obsessed with trying to dig leaves out from under the white blanket covering our yard. Gracie is consistent with her avoidance of all precipitation. Sadly the snow lastest longer than she could. Finally we got her outside. She looked cute even if she wasn't happy.
For the New Year this year we both had a few days off, so we decided to head down to South Carolina in an attempt to allow Phillip some extra time with his family. He's been working quite a bit since he took this new job, so it's been a while since we've been able to make weekend-long trips to SC. We had a great time with his family. It's amazing how relaxing one place can be. We didn't do anything too exciting, but here are some pics from our time down there.

(Disclaimer: We are very well aware that this comes much too late to actually be considered a Christmas post. There are simply far too few hours in one day as of late.)
This was our Christmas 2008! Enjoy!!!
For her present this year, I took my mom to see Handel's Messiah at the Blumenthal Center in Charlotte. We had a truly wonderful time.
Of course we had to paint our annual ornament. This makes Number Four! Four great years together. Look at that hot man...he's a painting pro!
I have learned that I have a strong love for that gray patch...kind of distinguished looking. We typically spend Christmas Eve with my family and then Christmas Day with Phillip's family. By the end of it all, we are usually pretty exhausted.
Kasey and Dad seemed to enjoy Guitar Hero (by the way, why are all current holidays lost in the midst of video games?) and then of course Nick, Kandice, and our traditional holiday visit from Heather.
At this point, I was fighting my second round of bronchitis in one month. Yes, I was sick for our anniversary, my birthday, AND Christmas. So please excuse the fatigue-stricken expression.

Of course the "children" got their toys. Mason had his first Christmas this year. As it turns out, we have a very selfish pup. All of the toys (including the cat's) were taken one by one and placed in a neat little pile in his crate. After he had finished "collecting" his gifts, he decided that Gracie and Sassy were not entitled to repo their stolen goods so we had to intervene.
Phillip and I do our Christmas around midnight on Christmas Eve since the traveling commences soon thereafter. We had a really great time just hanging out together without an agenda ahead or rushing to the next house.

Lastly we spent Christmas day in Florence with P's family. I love this picture of Phillip. His mom got him new ski gear. He's such a child around Christmas!
